World Plastic Surgery Day observed
ALIGARH : The Department of Plastic Surgery, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University organized a webinar to mark the World Plastic Surgery Day.
The chief guest, Prof Raza Farooqui, Muzaffarnagar Medical College shared his experiences in Facial rejuvenation by using Botox injection and fillers. He said plastic surgery is becoming very popular and there is a need for creating awareness about the potential risks and restrictions of these procedures.
The guest of honour, Prof LM Bariar, former Chairman, Department of Plastic Surgery, said that plastic surgeons deal with the whole body, from head to toe, and their contribution is immense in terms of cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgeries. He pointed out that the reconstructive surgery is mainly carried out to treat physical defects or injuries, whereas cosmetic procedure aims to improve a person’s look.
Prof AH Khan, FH Medical College, Agra discussed the evolutionary history of plastic surgery in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and especially in Aligarh and adjoining districts, underscoring the contributions of late Prof MH Khan, who was the first plastic surgeon to start doing surgeries in 1970s in UP.
Prof Imran Ahmad deliberated on the importance of world plastic surgery day and said that the day should be used to create awareness in people and medical practitioners about the advantages, precautions and risks of plastic surgery, and dispel misconceptions in this regard.
Earlier, welcoming the guest speakers, Prof M Yaseen, Chairman of the department, highlighted the recent developments and improvements in the infrastructure of the department.
Dr MF Khurram stressed the importance of continuing education in the field and said that use of social media has been crucial in creating general awareness, as many plastic surgeons provide educational materials, highlight their work, and offer before-and-after photographs on social media channels. He also extended a vote of thanks.
Dr Sarfraz played a key role in organising the event, while Dr Noha Rahman presented an overview of the department. Dr Nimisha conducted the event.
