World Smile Day observed by illuminating iconic buildings at AMU
ALIGARH : The Aligarh Muslim University chapter of the World Smile Train programme observed the World Smile Day on October 4 by illuminating the iconic Baab-e-Syed, the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College building and the Department of Plastic Surgery building with blue light, joining the attempt to win a Global Guinness World Record by lighting 56 landmark buildings across Smile Train programme countries for at least 10 minutes.
This programme was initiated to celebrate the completion of 2 million Smile Train-supported cleft surgeries worldwide, including 700,000 surgeries in India, said Prof Imran Ahmad (Department of Plastic Surgery, JNMC), the Project Director, Smile Train Programme, USA.
He said that the landmark illumination programme was undertaken to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Smile Train project, of which the Aligarh Muslim University is a part with cleft lip surgeries being performed at the Department of Plastic Surgery.
He said that through this initiative, the project aimed at raising awareness about corrective surgery of cleft lip and palate patients and playing a vital role in bringing smile to the faces of such people by joining the noble cause.
