World TB Day observed at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University

ALIGARH March 24: The Department of TB and Chest Diseases, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University organised a CME-cum-Awareness drive to mark the World TB Day.

 

Addressing the inaugural function, Prof Veena Maheshwari (Dean, Faculty of Medicine) spoke on the importance of creating awareness about Tuberculosis and updating clinicians regarding management of TB.

 

Highlighting this year’s theme of the World TB Day, “Yes We can End TB”, Prof. Rakesh Bhargava (Principal, JNMC) spoke on the various facilities available at JNMC, AMU for treating different forms of TB.

 

The Organising head and Chairperson of the department, Prof Zuber Ahmad welcomed the participants and expressed concern over increasing incidence of TB, particularly after the outbreak of Covid-19.

 

He said a patient awareness camp will be organised on March 24 at Chest OPD 15 from 9 am to 12 noon in which patients will be imparted information on Tuberculosis treatment.

 

WHO Consultant, Dr Umer Aqil delivered a lecture on “Nextgen sequencing in TB”.

 

Organizing Secretary, Dr Imrana Masood delivered a talk on “Recent diagnostic techniques in the management of Tuberculosis”, while Dr Ummul Baneen spoke on “Different treatment regimens available for drug resistant TB”. Dr. Nafees Ahmad delivered a talk on “TB preventive treatment”.
