World University of Design invites exceptional research and innovation driven candidates for their specialized Ph.D programme
Advancing the field of Design through research co-development with corporates
New Delhi: World University of Design is setting its foot into a new academic session inviting applications from candidates interested in Full-Time and Part-Time specialized Ph.D programmes under the broad disciplines of Art, Architecture, Fashion, Design, Design Management, and Graphic Communication. Admissions are open now until May 5th, 2021.
The university particularly encourage applications in strategic design research areas ranging from inter-disciplinary to those which are strongly needs-focused – such as designing new medical innovations or citizen science through to those which are more experimental – such as designing trust in AI systems or multi-species design, future of making, manufacture and materials; Systems and design; Design for safety; Design for health; Intelligent machines; Data capture and creation; Design science etc.
World University of Design is also actively seeking partnership with corporations to co-develop design research relevant to industries. The partner corporation will sponsor one or more design professionals or researchers for three years to lead a collaborative research project with both WUD faculty and industry experts on a topic of common relevance. Residency at the university is not required. The design professional will be able to continue in his/her job with the expectation of working remotely with the faculty guide.
Given the hike in pandemic statistics in the country, the University is determined to imbibe Covid norms whilst ensuring that the students do not waste a precious year of their doctorate studies. There are well organized classes offline as well as online keeping students in sync with the curriculum.
It is worth a mention that this young (established in 2018) and India’s first and only University dedicated to education in the creative domain was beyond prepared as the country was hit by Covid-19 in March 2020. The courses went online with immediate effect on March 16th, 2020, which was a week before the official lockdown in India, undeterred and strictly regular.
A PhD in Design is becoming important for graduates who wish to pursue careers in academics in India. This means some of the most common careers are college professor and researcher. It is however possible to hold more traditional positions, such as a design manager, marketing consultant, interior designer, or others. It is also possible to work independently in whichever creative discipline you prefer. Additionally, many professionals hold teaching and design careers in tandem.
Admission to the Ph.D. Programmes will be made through a written test which will be followed by an Interview. Candidates from all fields are welcome as a design background is not essential.
