DELHI-NCR : The World University of Design (WUD) campus brimmed with excitement as Bollywood singer and songwriter Nikhil D’Souza entranced the audience at ‘Cult 2023,’ the university’s annual international culture and design festival in Sonipat. With his captivating vocals and guitar skills, Nikhil D’Souza had the crowd singing along, utterly captivated.
The three-day cultural festival united over 92 colleges from the Delhi NCR, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh region, attracting a crowd of more than 5,000 students across the event. These students actively participated in over 30 competitions, with the chance to claim over 70 fantastic prizes.
The event provided students with an opportunity to relax and engage with peers from diverse fields, spanning arts, design, sports, fashion, dance, and technology. Acknowledging the students’ enthusiasm for sports, particularly in a state like Haryana with a significant student population participating in local and state tournaments, the organizers expanded CULT this year by introducing professional sports competitions. This included soccer, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, and badminton, open to both male and female participants.
The Cultural and Design events featured a spectrum of activities, from Vocal Music (Solo and Group, both Western and Classical) to Battle of Bands, E-sports (Valorant, BGMI, WWE), Wall Mural, Dramatics Solo, Calligraphy, Motion Film, Sports, and General Quiz. These events continued into the evening, creating a lively atmosphere with fun games, delicious food, jamming sessions, a Band performance, and a DJ party.
Final day added to the excitement with events like Group Dance (Western, Classical, and Folk), Solo Dance Face-off, Street Theatre, Live Sketching, Photography, and a grand Fashion Show, showcasing awe-inspiring collections and themes crafted by students from various universities. The day culminated with the Celebrity Night, featuring the celebrated singer Nikhil D’Souza, who delivered an electrifying performance, engaging the audience in singing and dancing to his hit songs like “Sham“ from Aisha, “O Gujariya“ from Queen, and “Anjaana Anjaani ki Kahani” from Anjaana Anjaani.
The University has been hosting this annual event, and this year celebrated the 7th edition of the cultural festival. In celebrating the fest’s success, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Gupta, Vice Chancellor of WUD, stated, “CULT 2023 has maintained its upward trajectory, firmly establishing itself as a prominent event in Sonipat. It draws students from afar, offering them a platform to showcase their potential and engage in healthy competition. This festival serves as a forum for young minds to create, unite, liberate, and transform, laying the foundation for its future success. With a diverse range of events and activities, from Soccer to Fashion Shows, it truly encapsulated the essence of team spirit and the creative energy that thrives within our student community.’’
