WSU’s Heo Honored as 2024 IEEE Fellow for Outstanding Contributions
Deukhyuon Heo, Frank Brands Analog Distinguished Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, has been named a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He was recognized for his work in complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) power amplifiers in multilayer packages and reconfigurable reactive components.
CMOS amplifiers are used in numerous analog circuits and allow for high-performance circuitry in computers, audio systems, smartphones, cameras, and other technology.
IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional society and the leading professional association for the advancement of technology with more than 400,000 members in more than 160 countries. The IEEE Board of Directors confers the grade of fellow on researchers with outstanding accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. It is the highest grade of membership, awarded to less than 0.1% of voting members, and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and important career achievement.
With WSU since 2003, Heo has authored and co-authored about 190 publications, including 90 peer-reviewed journals and 100 international conference papers. Among his research interests are transceiver design for wireless data communications; battery-less wireless sensors and intelligent power management systems for sustainable energy sources; and adaptive beamformer for phased-array communications.
He has been a member of the Technical Program Committee of the IEEE Microwave theory and Techniques Society International Microwave Symposium and the International Symposium of Circuit and Systems. He has also served as an associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems –Part II: Express Briefs, as well as the IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques. He is also a recipient of a National Science Foundation Career Award.
Heo holds a bachelor’s degree from Kyungpook National University, a master’s degree from Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) and a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech).
