WWF-India and Discovery Kid’s Wild Wisdom Quiz culminates its city level with Delhi chapter
Delhi: More than 500 school students today came together to vie for the title of Delhi Champions at the city-level finals of the Wild Wisdom Quiz 2017. In its tenth year, the Wild Wisdom Quiz is the biggest wildlife quiz for school students in Asia and the only one of its kind in India. Organized by WWF-India and supported by Discovery Kids and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Delhi event saw participation from 500 students selected from more than 10,500 participants, from 155 schools across Delhi NCR, keen to outshine each other in their knowledge of biodiversity, environment and conservation issues.
The Wild Wisdom Quiz, started in 2008, has only grown in strength over the last decade and has reached beyond the country, with Nepal running its first edition of the quiz in 2017. In India, the Wild Wisdom Quiz is being run across 817 schools in 14 cities with participation from approximately 50,000 students. Run in the format of a competition, the quiz is a fun way to help children learn more about the environment and also help inculcate in them a sense of responsibility towards the planet. Delhi is the third city to conduct its City-Level finals for Primary and Middle School students, with Coimbatore and Bangalore already having completed theirs. All Middle School winners of the City-Level finals will go head-to-head with each other at the National Levels to be conducted in New Delhi on 6 October, 2017, during the World Wildlife Week. The National Levels will be conducted by Mr. Siddharth Basu, the Quiz Man of India.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Radhika Suri, Director – Environment Education encouraged the children to learn and explore their surrounding environment. She urged them to connect with WWF and be a friend of panda through the various education initiatives like Eco-Trails, One Planet Academy, Ek Prithvi and WWF Volunteers.
The winners of the Delhi City Level Quiz 2017 were:
Winners : Primary Level Quiz : First Position : Aryaman Singh and Aditi Saha (class 5) from Shiv Nadar School, Gurugram.
Winners : Middle School Quiz : First Position : Avyukth Radhakrishnan and Siddharth Kumar (class 6) from Shri Ram School, Aravali.
The Shri Ram School, Aravali, Gurugram was felicitated with the Best School Award for being the school with the most number of registrations at a whopping 596 students.
While the Primary and Middle Level Quiz slowly reaches its finale across the cities, the online version of the quiz, for senior school students, will be open till 10 October 2017, giving them a chance to win exciting prizes, based on their knowledge of wildlife and other environment issues. The event also saw the release of “Common Snakes of Delhi” a fold out reference, prepared by WWF-India in association with Dr Surya Prakash from JNU. The publication will help readers learn and identify and appreciate the magnificence of Snakes.
