XISS Ranchi reopens campus for students with 50% capacity

Ranchi: Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi reopened its campus for the second year students amidst COVID -19 guidelines on Monday. The Institute has started with a phase-wise reopening strategy wherein only 50% of the capacity are allowed in the campus for offline classes, while the others attended the same class via online mode.

XISS has reopened its campus for students, adhering to the guidelines of AICTE, UGC, Central Government, State Government and District authorities. The Institute is also adopting a set of safety and hygiene guidelines developed by the XISS COVID-19 Task Force which will be updated on a regular basis.

Speaking during the program organized in the Fr. Michael Van den Bogaert, SJ Memorial Auditorium during the reopening of the Institute, Dr. Joseph Marianus Kujur S.J., Director, XISS said, “It is very heartwarming to see students returning to the campus. We had received many queries from the parents and students regarding opening of the Institute and so after discussing with other B-School authorities decided to resume classes in a phase-wise manner strictly adhering to the protocols assuring safety of everyone present inside the campus. The classes will be run on a hybrid model where only 50% of the total capacity will be allowed to attend the classes offline while others attend it online and vice-versa on alternate days.”

As we know that these are unprecedented times but students who also have to prepare themselves for the placements have to live upto the motto of the Institute, ‘Professionals with a difference’ and become managers who are risk takers. I also believe that coming back to campus and meeting their friends and teachers, will create a positive impact on their mental health and will help to normalize the situation as well. Being said, I still maintain that the pandemic is far from over and hence stringent SOP will be followed inside the campus and hostels,” he added

Dr. Pradeep Kerketta S.J., Assistant Director, XISS emphasized on the importance of resuming the classes in classrooms as students need to prepare themselves for the placements as well. He reiterated that everyone should wear masks inside the campus and hostels and sanitize their hands frequently.

XISS has also ensured thermal scanning of body temperature upon entering the campus, maintaining social distancing in common spaces, sanitising hands, thorough disinfection and cleaning of all classrooms and the entire XISS campus. Furthermore, medical assistance like routine health check-ups, monitoring of students will be provided soon as a medical practitioner will be visiting the campus.

The program saw an attendance of all five Heads of Programmes along with XISS COVID-19 Task Force Members Dr. Amar E. Tigga, Dr. Anant Kumar, Dr. Shyamal Gomes, Ms. Aayurshi, Dr. Rajshree Verma among others.
