XIV UCCN Annual Conference postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak

The event that was scheduled for July this year will be postponed to the second semester, on a date to be defined. 246 cities recognized for their creativity worldwide are expected to participate
Due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus, the 14th Annual Conference of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, scheduled to take place between 13 and 17 July in Santos (SP), was postponed to the second half of this year, on a date to be defined. The announcement was made this week through videoconference, which brought together the Assistant Director-General for Culture of UNESCO, Ernesto Ottone Ramirez, and the mayor of the city of Santos, Paulo Alexandre Barbosa.

This year’s event will have the theme “Creativity, Path to Equality” and will discuss ways in which cities can use their creative and innovative capital to address challenges and move towards providing more balanced and egalitarian spaces. This will be the first time that the conference will be held in Latin America and it is expected that 246 cities that are part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network will be represented at the event.

In Brazil, 10 municipalities are part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network: Belém (PA), Florianópolis (SC), Paraty (RJ) and Belo Horizonte (MG) in the field of gastronomy; Brasília (DF), Curitiba (PR) and Fortaleza (CE) in design; João Pessoa (PB) in crafts and folk arts; Salvador (BA) in music; and Santos (SP) in cinema.
