XLRI hosts its flagship techno-operations event CYGNUS 2019

Jamshedpur: XLRI- Xavier School of Management recently hosted its flagship techno-operations event Cygnus 2019. The event was jointly organised by AXIOM – The Operations Club and SOCRATES – The IT Club of XLRI under the theme “Industry 4.0”. The conclave included various events with emphasis on technologies like IoT, Data Analytics and Blockchain and their implementation in Operations Management. Cygnus 2019 focused on the applications of IoT and how it has started shaping the Industries.

Cygnus 2019 aimed to help management students become accustomed to new technologies and promote innovation in businesses. Technology promotes innovation, making businesses more efficient and competitive in the market. Cygnus intended to provide students a valuable insight into the rapidly developing technological space, thereby helping them stay ahead of the game and make informed technology related decisions as future leaders.

The conclave kicked off with an interactive workshop on Industrial IoT conducted by Mr. Arup Chakraborti- Founder, Greenwave Solutions Pvt Ltd, having led the transformation of many manufacturing plants with IoT and manufacturing Intelligence, Mr. Arup explained the various applications of IoT. The 3-hour interactive workshop session opened up the students to a plethora of avenues of IoT. It was followed by a guest session on Digital Twin by Prof. Surjya K Pal – CoE on Advanced Manufacturing Technology, IIT Kharagpur and a workshop on Industry 4.0 by Ms. Smriti Agrawal – Head, Digital and Analytics, Tobacco Division, ITC.

The second day was graced by guest sessions on TATA Steel’s journey in Intelligent Manufacturing, delivered by Mr. Ranjan Kumar Singh – Head, Slab Casting and Mr. Akshay Khullar – Chief, LD2 and Sand Casters.

Case competition, Encephalon was held on operations management, in association with Swiggy, where student teams from Delhi Technological University and NITIE Mumbai, took home the winners and runners up prizes respectively.

A participative session on Industry 4.0 by Mr. Shailender Singh, DGM- Business Excellence, from ITC Paperboards and Specialty Paper Division and the unveiling of XLRI’s IoT lab drew the event to a close.
