XLRI, SRIHER sign MoU for Healthcare Professionals

Chennai: Sri Ramachandra Faculty of Management Sciences (SRFMS), a constituent faculty of Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER), Chennai came together on 21st November 2023 to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop and offer various academic and professional programs to meet the growing demands for skilled healthcare management professionals. Both institutions have a rich heritage of offering high-quality, relevant, and cutting-edge educational programs that groom well-rounded, responsible professionals to address the growing needs of industry and the nation. The institutions also look forward to actively collaborate on areas of research relevant to the rapidly growing challenges faced by the healthcare sector.
India’s first Business School, XLRI was founded by Jesuit Fr. Quinn Enright, SJ and SRIHER was founded by Sri Ramachandra Education & Health Trust. XLRI is currently celebrating its platinum jubilee year, having been established in 1949 whereas SRIHER was established in 1985 as a medical college, going on to become a deemed university in 1994 offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in most areas related to medicine and healthcare sciences. XLRI was the first to start a full-time management program in Industrial Welfare in the year 1953 and has since successfully pioneered many educational and management development programs, including through the online mode since 2002. Both institutions have been consistently ranked amongst the top private educational institutions in the country.
The MoU was signed at a private ceremony in SRIHER campus by Dr. Fr. K.S. Casimir, SJ. (Director, XLRI Delhi-NCR Campus) and Dr. Uma Sekar (Vice-Chancellor, SRIHER). Also present at the ceremony were Dr. Mahesh Vakamudi (Pro Vice-chancellor, SRIHER), Dr. Roopa Nagarajan (Registrar, SRIHER) Mr. J. Ravi Sankar, (Director of Finance, SRIHER), Dr. T.A. Srinivasan (GM-Legal Services, SRIHER), Dr. R. Sivakumar (Academic Officer, SRIHER), Dr. Selvam Jesiah (Principal, SRFMS), Dr. Paramjyot Singh (Faculty, XLRI), and Dr. Santosh Sangem (Faculty, XLRI).
Speaking on the occasion, Fr. K.S. Casimir said “This collaboration with SRFMS is a vital step in our journey to contribute towards grooming and developing professional healthcare managers who will help address the nation’s imperative of managing the provision of highest quality, accessible, equitable, and affordable healthcare services to all citizens as part of our commitment to the broader UN Sustainable Development Goals to ensure universal healthcare provision by 2030. We are extremely excited to partner with SRIHER across academics and impactful policy-driven healthcare research in our endeavor to help address the need for a significantly large number of professionals trained in cutting-edge management practices relevant to the Indian healthcare sector.” Dr. Uma Sekar stated that the collaboration is a breakthrough in healthcare education and training which will undoubtedly benefit the healthcare professionals across the country. Dr. Mahesh Vakamudi calls this bilateral understanding of SRIHER with XLRI a leap forward in bringing a formidable change in the landscape of healthcare executive education.
Fr. George Sebastian (Director, XLRI Jamshedpur) who could not be present for the event conveyed his wishes and blessings for the success of the collaborative efforts. He expressed his profound sense of delight that both institutions have taken up this initiative during the platinum jubilee year of XLRI and that this collaboration would open new possibilities for both institutions to work towards the common greater good of the nation.

The first set of programs through this collaboration will be launched in April 2024.
