Yoga Ustav and Workshops at AMU

 

Aligarh : Girls’ residential halls of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organized Yoga Utsav and workshop to mark the International Day of Yoga.  Renowned Pediatrician and philanthropist, Dr. Hameeda Tariq was the chief guest at the Yoga Ustav held at Sarojini Naidu Hall. Addressing the gathering Dr. Hameeda Tariq said: Yoga is an important part of Indian culture and it has numerous physical and mental health benefits.

Expert Yoga Instructor from New Delhi, Ms. Shraddha Tiwari along with resident students of Physical Education Department, AMU demonstrated various yoga poses beneficial for medical conditions like sinusitis, migraine and also to curb anxiety and to boost concentration and mental strength. “Everyone should devote at least half an hour every day in yoga and reap its benefits”, emphasized Ms Tiwari.

The special guests for the occasion, Prof. Naima Khatoon, Principal Women’s College, Dr. Salma Shaheen, Principal, Women’s Polytechnic, Dr. Orus Ilyas, Associate Professor, Department of Wildlife sciences, Ms. Mahwash Khan and Dr. Nazia from Women’s’ College AMU, Prof. Shaheen (Provost, S. N. Hall), guests, wardens and more than 50 resident students performed yoga in the lush green lawns of Sarojini Naidu Hall.

S.N. Hall wardens, Dr. Sufia Naseem, Dr. Asfia Sultan, Dr. Bushra Siddiqui, Dr. Saba Khan, Dr. Aliviea Raza (Resident warden) and Dr. Naveela Khan (Resident warden) were the Programme coordinators.

Meanwhile the Begum Azeezun Nisa Hall, organized a three-day Workshop on Yoga.

Dr. Hameeda Tariq, the Chief Guest of the Valedictory Ceremony expounded on the utility and necessity of Yoga to stay healthy and energetic. She reckoned many benefits of early rising and practicing Yoga and also pointed out that Yoga helps to improve the concentration power of students.

Prof Subuhi Khan (Provost BANH), urged participants to make Yoga an essential segment of their daily lives. She also ensured the residents to provide necessary arrangements for the regular Yoga training in the Hall.

The resource person for the workshop Ms Aziza Rizvi (Former Physical Directress, Sports, Women’s College) emphasized on holistic approach to the health and well-being of the student through Yoga.

Prof Syed Tariq Murtaza, Chairperson, Department of Physical Education, AMU was the Advisor, and Dr Zeba Azmat (Sports Warden) was the Convener of the Workshop.

The Yoga sessions were conducted by Ms Seema Zaitoon (Physical Education Teacher, Sr. Sec. School, Girls, AMU). She explained about the Yoga Asanas while demonstrators and volunteers helped the participants perform the Asanas.

Certificates to the team of resource persons and the participants were distributed in the valedictory ceremony by the Chief Guest Dr. Hameeda Tariq.

More than hundred girl students of various courses, wardens and female employees of the Hall, participated in the event.
