Yonsei University Appoints 8 Distinguished Alumni as Ambassadors to Symbolize ‘Yonsei Spirit’
Yonsei university and the Alumni Association held an ‘Ambassador Appointment Ceremony’ at the Presidential Reception Hall on April 9th, appointing eight distinguished alumni to serve as ambassadors representing Yonsei.
In order to maintain the prestigious reputation throughout our history, it has become essential to strengthen our alumni network and enhance the university’s image as a top-tier institution. Therefore, our university has decided to select alumni who are actively engaged in various fields such as academia, culture, arts, media, and sports, to serve as ambassadors promoting Yonsei.
A total of 8 ambassadors were appointed this tie, including soprano Kang Hye-jung (Entering Class of ’97, Voice), Kim Mi-kyung, CEO of MK CREATIVE (Entering Class of ’83, Composition), Paik Jong-won, CEO of TheBorn Korea (Entering Class of ’85, Social Welfare), Seo Jang-hoon, Broadcaster/Former Basketball Player (Entering Class of ’93, Sport Industry Studies), Oh Sang-jin, Announcer (Entering Class of ’98, Business Administration), Dr. Oh Eun-young, Expert in Childcare (Entering Class of ’85, Medicine), Ryu So-yeon, Professional Golfer (Entering Class of ’09, Physical Education), and Jun Hyun-moo, Announcer (Entering Class of ’97, English Language & Literature, Sociology), representing various fields of influence.
At the appointment ceremony, President Dong-Sup Yoon, Senior Vice President for Administration and Development Kim Yongho, President Lee Kyoung Ryul of the Alumni Association, Co-Chairman Kyung-sun Yu of the Development Committee, along with other key figures from Yonsei university and the alumni association, were present, along with the appointed ambassadors, including Kang Hye-jung, Kim Mi-kyung, Oh Sang-jin, and Oh Eun-young, who added luster to the event.
President Dong-Sup Yoon, in his welcoming remarks, stated, “The ambassadors embody the spirit of freedom, truth, and ‘Yonsei-ness·Yonsei Spirit(연세다움),’ which are the educational ideals of our university. Through collaboration with the ambassadors, we hope to promote the excellence of our university both domestically and internationally, and to enhance the pride of Yonseians.”
President Lee Kyoung Ryul of the Alumni Association, in his congratulatory speech, emphasized, “Over the past 140 years, Yonsei has demonstrated the vitality of reducing disorder in the midst of chaos, even amidst the laws of disorder in the universe. I hope that in the midst of this turbulent world, Yonsei will play a crucial role as the respiratory system that breathes life into our society.”
The ambassadors will engage in various promotional activities for the university, including participation in events jointly hosted by the president and the alumni association. Their term will last approximately two years, starting from the appointment date until May 2026.
