ZHCET team wins top prizes for their formula car

Aligarh : Revving the sound of engines and screeching its tyres, ‘ZFR 5.0’ was greeted with cheers of wonderstruck chassis constructors and automobile engineers as it zipped past the Formula 1 track at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida.

This Formula car designed by 20 Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) students from the Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET) Formula Racing team was going through the test of durability of equipment and endurance before it ended up winning Future Vehicle prize and the People’s Choice award at the Formula Imperial 2022 organised by ISIE India, Galgotias University and Buddh International Circuit on August 30.

The ZHCET team which designed the Formula car, ‘ZFR 5.0’ is led by Hammad Qamar (Captain), Asjad Ali Khan (Vice Captain), Abdul Samad (Team Manager), Syed Mohammad Barik (Treasurer), Tushar Gupta, Zulkifle Anwar, Md Moin Khan, Md Kashif Raza, Inayat Rasool, Kuber Rajpoot, Md Suboor Aziz, Abu Bakr, Farhan Khan, Md Mobassir Alam, Mohammad Haris, Arsalan Siddiqui, Fahar Ahmad, Md Adnan, H A Q Hamza Ahmad Khan, and Ayush Garg.

“We spent several months designing and making ‘ZFR 5.0’ in line with international Formula racing specifications. The car underwent technical inspection comprising several tests for speed and acceleration, before winning the top prizes at Buddh International Circuit”, said the captain, Hammad Qamar.

Speaking on the car configuration, he added: “ZFR 5.0 is powered with a KTM 390CC engine, self-designed air intake manifold, AISI 4130 steel space frame chassis and Powertronics piggyback ECU for maximum power tuning. The suspension, steering, and brake system of the car is designed for best possible vehicle maneuvering”.

“ZHCET team is now working on the design and making of another Formula Car, which will be called ‘ZFR 6.0’. This car will be put up for show in the Formula Bharat 2023, scheduled at the Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore. The team members are also preparing for participation in international formula-student competitions like FS Austria and FS UK in 2023”, informed faculty advisors of the SAE ZHCET Collegiate Club, Dr Syed Fahad Anwer and Nafees Ahmad.

“I advise all young all student automotive enthusiasts to get involved with Formula Student competitions as nothing can prepare them better for a real-world challenge than these contests”, said Prof Mohammad Muzammil (Chairman, Department of Mechanical Engineering) while felicitating the ZHCET team members for the achievement in a special function.
