Zhejiang University Delegation, Led by Vice President HE Lianzhen, Visits UIUC
From September 20 to 23, Prof. HE Lianzhen, vice president of Zhejiang University, led a delegation on a visit to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in the United States. The primary purpose of this visit was to further cement ties between the two universities in the realms of talent development and scientific research.

During their visit, Prof. HE Lianzhen and her delegation engaged in constructive meetings with notable figures at UIUC, including Chancellor Robert Jones, Vice Chancellor and Provost John Coleman, and Prof. Rashid Bashir, Dean of the Grainger College of Engineering.

UIUC leadership extended a warm and gracious welcome to Prof. HE Lianzhen and her delegation. They stressed that, over nearly 40 years of exchanges and cooperation, a strong, equitable, and open partnership has evolved between the two universities, yielding substantial outcomes. The establishment of the ZJU-UIUC Institute has further cemented this partnership, rendering it even more exceptional. UIUC expressed full confidence in the future prospects of cooperation between the two universities and affirmed their commitment to deepening these ties, expanding the scope of cooperation, and creating a model of innovation and international cooperation in the field of global higher education together.
Prof. HE Lianzhen highlighted that in light of increasingly prominent global challenges and the even more intricate international landscape, Zhejiang University is resolute in advancing cooperation with global partners in the arenas of talent development and scientific research, adhering to the principles of openness and cooperation. UIUC, as a pivotal partner of Zhejiang University, is well-renowned for its educational and research excellence as well as its profound global influence. Many of their innovative concepts and practices serve as exemplary models. Looking ahead, Zhejiang University aims to expand its partnership with UIUC in terms of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, explore avenues for growth in cooperation, enhance the depth of collaboration, and boost global impact, thus making a more substantial contribution to global higher education and social development.
During the visit, the Zhejiang University delegation engaged in extensive discussions with various UIUC departments on topics related to undergraduate programs, research collaboration, and project implementation. These discussions involved the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering, and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Furthermore, the delegation interacted with young faculty members from the ZJU-UIUC Institute who were participating in a training program at UIUC.
