Zhejiang University hosts Consul-General of Germany in Shanghai Pit Heltmann
On April 21, Prof. Prof. HE Lianzhen, vice president of Zhejiang University, met with Mr. Pit Heltmann, Consul-General of Germany in Shanghai.
Prof. HE Lianzhen extended her warm welcome to Mr. Pit Heltmann and introduced the University’s cooperation with Germany as well as its global engagement strategy. She said that the University has long partnered with German universities and institutions and has achieved fruitful results in joint research, faculty and student exchanges, cultural communication. She looked forward to expanding cooperation with Germany in broader fields and at deeper levels and making concerted efforts to resolve common problems in humanity’s sustainable development. Mr. Pit Heltmann hoped that Chinese and German universities will further promote two-way exchanges and academic cooperation so as to make greater contributions to tackling global issues in a collaborative manner.
Mr. Pit Heltmann also exchanged ideas with 10 Humboldt scholars at Zhejiang University. He said that much emphasis should be laid on two-way communication among Chinese and German scholars / students and that cooperation should be deepened in such areas of common concern as climate change to achieve a win-win situation. The Humboldt scholars shared their visions of cooperation with Germany, and looked forward to further deepening academic cooperation and promoting friendship between China and Germany.
Zhejiang University has partnered with 14 German universities and institutions, including the University of Munich, the Technical University of Munich, Rwth Aachen University and the University of Kiel. In 2012, the University organized the “Zhejiang University Week in Germany” in cooperation with the Technical University of Berlin, the Free University of Berlin and the Humboldt University of Berlin, with the participation of 12 German universities. Since 2018, the University and the University of Munich have supported bilateral cooperation projects in law, economics, medicine, life sciences, public health via a joint seed fund. Since 2021, the University has organized the Sino-German forum on sustainable development on a yearly basis, which brings together a cohort of German and Chinese experts in government, industry, academia and research to conduct in-depth discussions on climate change, new energy, green development policies and green buildings and explore the potential paths to sustainable development.
