Zhejiang University Library Inaugurates X-Lab Space: Merging Reality and Virtuality for Future Innovations
In celebration of ZhejiangUniversity’s 127th anniversary, X-Lab-the first comprehensive experimental base of a university library in China that integrates innovative education, cutting-edge technology, and intelligent learning resources-was officially launched at the Zhejiang University Library on May 23.
At the event, participants donned a variety of VR, MR, AR glasses, including Apple Vision Pro, transcending the boundaries between reality and virtuality to immerse themselves in the profound allure of XR technology. The experience encompassed an exploration of traditional culture, and the Liangzhu Civilization, as well as lifelike encounters with three-dimensional painting and mechanical disassembly.

Currently, ZJU is constructing a fully integrated teaching support system centered on student growth, advancing AI-driven educational reforms. With the opening of the newly established main library at the Zijingang Campus, the library has emphasized student growth even more, introducing a range of innovative spaces and services to elevate the level of intelligent services.
To further enhance the effective allocation of educational resources and better adapt to the changing learning models in the AI era, the library’s X-Lab has created five specialized spaces: XR Studio, VR Cinema, VR Room, AR Room, and MR Room. These spaces offer an array of high-tech experiences, including 8K panoramic immersive viewing, metaverse interactive reading, software and hardware operation training, and creative displays.
Looking ahead, the X-Lab Space aims to leverage its unique advantages to build a comprehensive platform for interdisciplinary and cross-domain technology innovation, academic exchange, and practical exploration for teachers and students, providing strong support for the university’s cultivation of innovative talents.
