Zhejiang University: Professor YUAN Huiqiu honored as an APS Fellow

Prof. YUAN Huiqiu from the Zhejiang University Department of Physics has been honored as a 2021 Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS), one of the world’s largest and most prestigious organizations dedicated to the advancement of physics.


Prof. Yuan was specifically cited for “his outstanding contribution to the research areas of unconventional superconductivity, quantum criticality, topological materials with strong electronic correlations, and superconductors with broken inversion/time-reversal symmetry”.

Prof. Yuan’s research includes on various topics at the frontiers of correlated electron systems, with a particular focus on the emergent quantum phases and associated phenomena arising from strong many-body electron interactions. In particular, his major research interests include quantum phase transitions, especially in heavy fermion systems, unconventional superconductivity, and correlated topological materials. He employs a range of experimental techniques to probe correlated materials under the extreme conditions of low temperatures, high pressure, and high magnetic fields, so as to tune the electronic interactions and reveal the underlying physics. Prof. Yuan has made particularly important contributions in the areas of heavy fermions, non-centrosymmetric superconductivity and iron-based superconductors, which have had considerable impact within the field of condensed matter physics. He has published more than 140 peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Nature, Science, PNAS and Physical Review Letters.

The APS fellowship is a distinct honor unanimously recognized by professional peers. Each year, no more than one half of one percent of the Society’s membership (excluding student members) is recognized by their peers for election to the status of Fellow of the American Physical Society.
