Zhejiang University: Professors named ACM Fellows
On January 13th, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) announced its 2020 Fellows, which include two professors from the Zhejiang University College of Computer Science and Technology (CCST): Prof. REN Kui and Prof. ZHOU Kun.
“We’re delighted that the ACM has recognized our two outstanding scholars,” said Prof. CHEN Gang, Dean of CCST. “Both of them exemplify creativity and passion in their work. We’re tremendously proud of their achievements.”
The ACM Fellows program recognizes the top 1% of ACM Members for their outstanding accomplishments in computing and information technology. Nominations are recommended by peers and reviewed by a distinguished selection committee.
“This year our task in selecting the 2020 Fellows was a little more challenging, as we had a record number of nominations from around the world,” explained ACM President Gabriele Kotsise. “These men and women have made pivotal contributions to technologies that are transforming whole industries, as well as our personal lives.”
Prof. REN Kui was elected for his contributions to wireless system security and cloud data security. He has published over 300 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences in areas of cloud and outsourcing security, wireless and wearable system security, and artificial intelligence security, with total citations over 34,000 times and an H-index of 75. His research has also been transferred into extensive industry applications in collaboration with leading tech firms such as Alibaba. In addition to ACM Fellow, REN Kui is also an IEEE Fellow (2016), ACM Distinguished Member (2017) and Highly Cited Researcher (2020). He serves as Vice Dean of the College of Computer Science and Technology and Dean of the School of Cyber Science and Technology.
Prof. ZHOU Kun was elected for his contributions to computer graphics. He conducts a wide range of research on shape modeling, real-time rendering, GPGPU computing, digital avatars and 3D printing. These lines of research have led to over 60 publications in ACM SIGGRAPH/TOG and more than 50 granted patents. His technologies have been adopted by nearly 1000 companies all over the world. He was also named one of the world’s top 35 young innovators by MIT Technology Review (2011) and elected as an IEEE Fellow (2015).
“Being recognized as ACM Fellow is a great honor for me. I feel very grateful to my students and collaborators,” said REN Kui. “Pursuing innovative research ideas and making real-world impacts have always been my motivation both as a scholar and as the director for the institute that I founded at Zhejiang University.”
“I am honored to receive this prestigious recognition from ACM,” said ZHOU Kun. “I hope I can contribute more creative ideas and works to the field that impacts industries and the world in the future.”
Founded in 1947, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is the world’s largest educational and scientific computing society. It has nearly 100,000 members and its publications consist of some of the most respected academic journals in the field of information. The Turing Award, awarded by ACM (A.M. Turing Award), is widely recognized as the Nobel Prize in the computer sciences.
