ZJU Marks Spring 2024 Commencement Ceremony with Celebrations
On the afternoon of March 30, the Zhejiang University Spring 2024 Commencement Ceremony and the Master’s and Doctoral Degree Ceremony unfolded on Zijingang Campus. More than 2,000 graduates, adorned in caps and gowns, were eagerly prepared to embark on their next chapter of life.
DU Jiangfeng, President of Zhejiang University, extended his heartfelt wishes to the graduates and delivered a stirring address. “In this era of rapid knowledge renewal, where new technologies and phenomena emerge constantly, I urge you to maintain your thirst for learning,” DU remarked passionately. He emphasized the importance of continuously updating one’s knowledge and fostering an innovative mindset.
Innovation is the cornerstone of progress,” Du stressed, underlining the transformative power of science and technology in shaping our world. He urged the graduates to keep the habit of exploration and embrace innovative thinking to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.
DU highlighted the role of modern universities in nurturing cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary cooperation and cultivating win-win partnerships as a hub for cultural exchange and mutual learning. “Society is a more diverse ‘university’ in which you need to integrate into teams and organizations efficiently, respond to complex challenges through openness and cooperation, and attain common growth and development through concerted efforts to solve problems,” said DU.
“The prosperity of the world and the progress of human civilization call for a more open environment and greater efforts in building a community of shared future for mankind,” Du added. “I hope that you will integrate into the global open development pattern with an open mind and a win-win notion, find answers to such questions of the times as ‘what has happened to the world’ and ‘how should we respond’, and provide the wisdom and power of Zhejiang University to address global common challenges and solve common human problems.”
JIAO Zongxia, Fellow of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a distinguished alumnus from the Class of 1991, shared his personal journey during his ten years of study for his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees at Zhejiang University and imparted invaluable advice. He encouraged the graduates to pursue innovative thinking relentlessly, choose their research direction rationally, keep their feet on the ground on the path of scientific research, and establish a close link between personal development and national progress.
DENG Gaofeng, a master’s degree recipient from the College of Control Science and Engineering, spoke on behalf of the graduates. He shared his transformative academic journey from a novice researcher to a champion in academic competitions. “Theoretical research and practical exploration have enabled me to realize that my research can lay a solid foundation for achieving the goal of smart manufacturing by 2035, and I have thus become determined to tap into my professional knowledge and personal strengths for the greater good,” said DENG.
As the ceremony concluded, the atmosphere buzzed with optimism and determination. The stage was set for these bright minds to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, armed with knowledge, innovation, and a sense of purpose.
