ZJU partners with top French grande école to train math talent
On October 21, a virtual signing ceremony was held between Zhejiang University and MINES ParisTech, a top French grande école founded in 1783 and now part of Université PSL.
Dr. REN Shaobo, Chairman of Zhejiang University Council, and Mr. Vincent Laflèche, Directeur Général of MINES ParisTech, signed the agreement for cooperation in mathematics, marking a new chapter in the partnership. Under this framework, both institutions will collaborate to train math talent in diverse forms, including double degree, student exchange and post-doc mobility programs.
“While the pandemic has disrupted international mobility, we believe that, with commitment to scientific spirit and international collaboration as well as the empowerment of information technology, we will be able to overcome difficulties and march towards our common goals,” Dr. REN said.
“We believe that this joint program will add new momentum to educational cooperation between our two countries, and also facilitate academic exchanges and research collaboration,” he added.
Reviewing the past collaborations, Mr. Laflèche said that both institutions share common values and visions. “Mathematics is a universal language binding together different sciences. The joint program will provide an amazing opportunity for our students to receive a top education in mathematics, to be open to other multidisciplinary sciences and to acquire the intercultural skills needed to evolve in our globalized societies,” he added.
Following the signing ceremony, the two sides explored further collaborations in mathematical sciences.
