USF Announces Launch of Fifth Kalam Postgraduate Fellowship for Indian Students

 

New Delhi: To mark the late President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s birth anniversary, the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa announced the launch of the fifth Kalam Postgraduate (PhD) Fellowship. The Fellowship, named in his honor and memory of his 2012 visit to USF, is offered to students who have graduated (or are in the process of graduating) from an Indian university in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program.

The online application to USF for a Ph.D. program requires submission of a research proposal in any of the following areas: Applied Anthropology, Applied Physics, Business Ph.D. programs, Cell Biology, Microbiology & Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science & Engineering, Engineering, Criminology, Integrative Biology, Marine Science and Psychology.

Awarded to one student per academic year, the USF fellowship waives tuition fee for all four years, pays health insurance and fees and also provides a 12-month, $22,000 stipend, courtesy of the USF Provost’s Office.

Previous winners include Avijit Sengupta of IIT Bombay, Veena Subramanian of the Indian Institute of Sciences in Bangalore and Arjun Kadian from the University of Pune. All three are currently pursuing their Ph.D. research at USF.
