103rd Issue of Kahani Punjab Released
Aligarh: The 103rd issue of Kahani Punjab, a quarterly journal dedicated to Punjabi fiction, was released by Prof Mohammad Asim Siddiqui, Chairman, Department of English, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in a function at the Department of Modern Indian Languages, AMU.
The magazine has been edited by Prof. Kranti Pal, a faculty member of Punjabi language.
Releasing the journal, Professor Asim Siddiqui said that Kahani Punjab is an important journal contributing not only to the Punjabi literature but also to the literature of other languages.
“The journal has carved a niche in literary genres particularly short story and fiction and it encourages budding story writers and also introduces the readers to the stories of various Indian and other languages of the world, which is very remarkable”, he said.
Professor Siddiqui further said that for many years Kahani Punjab has been organizing Kahani Goshthi (story reading session) at Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh where story writers and critics of different languages assemble to brainstorm on literature. Scholars from Aligarh have also been participating in this event.
“The editing and publication of Kahani Punjab was started by Sahitya Akademi Award winning novelist and story writer Ram Sarup Ankhi in 1993 and he edited its 67 issues. After him, his son Professor Kranti Pal is handling this responsibility from the 68th issue” Professor Siddiqui added.
He deliberated upon how Sir Syed Ahmad Khan published Aligarh Institute Gazette and Tahzeeb-Ul-Akhlaq always on time, similarly every issue of Kahani Punjab is brought out on time, which shows the dedication of the editor and his team.
Describing the contents of the 103rd issue of the journal, Professor Kranti Pal informed that it contains stories from 12 Indian languages under Indian fiction, including stories by Abdul Bismillah (Hindi), Valsalan Vathussery (Malayalam), Rajeshwar Singh Raju (Dogri), Ramnath Roy (Bengali), Devi Prasad Dash (Odia), Hijam Guna Singh (Manipuri), Rameshwar Godara (Rajasthani), GR Maharshi (Telugu), GB Prabhat (English), Madhu Rai (Gujarati), Ghulam Abbas (Urdu), and Raman (Punjabi), among others.
He further said that a literary piece by senior Punjabi story writer Prem Prakash, Professor Mohammad Sajjad’s article Jang-e-Azadi and Muslims: 1857 to 1947, portion of memoir by Bhisham Sahni and Anjani Kumar’s article on the sense of history are also part of this issue.
Professor Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar, Chairman, Department of Modern Indian Languages, Prof. TN Satheesan, Prof. Nujum A., Dr. Taher H Pathan, Dr. Pathan Khasim Khan, Dr. R Tamilselvan and others were present during the release ceremony.
