Aligarh Muslim University mourns Prof A H M Ahmad

 

Aligarh : The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) fraternity today bid a tearful adieu to distinguished academician and Chairman, Department of Geology, AMU, Prof A H M Ahmad, who passed away at a New Delhi Hospital after a prolonged kidney ailment.

“I am at loss of words to express my grief after knowing about Prof Ahmad’s demise. He was a passionate and dedicated teacher and a fine human being apart from being a reputed academician. I pray to the almighty to grant peace to the departed soul and pray for courage to his family members”, said AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor.

Prof Qazi Mazhar Ali (Dean, Faculty of Science) said: “Prof Ahmad’s vibrant presence has left an indelible mark. He taught and mentored students and helped them to achieve successful careers. His contributions are immense and I like to send my heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to his bereaved family”.

Prof Ahmad had a teaching experience of over 28 years. His research experience lasted for more than 35 years. He joined AMU as a lecturer in 1993 and was promoted to the positions of Reader and Professor in 2001 and 2014 respectively.

He published over papers 113 papers in numerous peer-reviewed national and international journals and supervised Phd and Mphil thesis.

Prof Ahmad was a member and treasurer of the Indian Association of Sedimentologists. He also held memberships of IGCP-506 and Paleontological Society of India.

The deceased is survived by wife, son and daughter.
