Vadodara: Navrachana University, the premier multi-disciplinary private university in Vadodara, awarded degrees to 676 students from different streams of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs at its 10th Convocation on Saturday.

Gold medals were awarded to 19 students, of whom 11 are girls, at the convocation. Ten students were awarded doctoral degrees at the hands of the dignitaries.

In his address, Lt Colonel Vijay Nair told the graduating students to follow their passion, focus on learning, enhance their knowledge, and take failures in their stride.

“You are a very fortunate generation. Today there are bigger opportunities and tougher challenges than when I was your age. Those opportunities and challenges mean there is a job out there for each one of you, so find it and chase your passion, and you will find excellence is an automatic byproduct,” he said.

Out of the 676 graduating students, 170 have specialised in Engineering, 174 in Business and Management Studies, 103 in Sciences, 72 in Architecture and Interior Design, 54 in Computer Applications and Data Science, 47 in Education, 21 in Journalism, 16 in Social Work, and nine in Law.

Some of the graduating students are pursuing further studies in prestigious institutions in India and overseas, while many have been placed in top corporate houses in Vadodara and other parts of India.

Earlier, the Convocation commenced with a welcome address and presentation of the annual report by Navrachana University Provost Prof Pratyush Shankar.

“We feel that complex challenges of the industry and society can be best addressed through a coming together of various disciplines and collaboration among different stakeholders. Navrachana University is among the very few academic institutions in India to have implemented a flexible and broad-based curriculum framework driven by the philosophy of creating a ‘T’ shaped personality of students,” Prof Shankar said.

Ms Tejal Amin, Chairperson of Navrachana Education Society, led the oath ceremony at the convocation.
