CUPB School of Environment & Earth Sciences organised two special Invited Lectures by Prof. Somnath Dasgupta & Prof. Partha Sarathi Roy
Bathinda: The Dept. of Geography & Dept. of Geology under the School of Environment & Earth Sciences at the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) organised two ‘Invited Lectures’ by eminent academicians in the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari. Under this online lecture series, the CUPB Dept. of Geology conducted an invited talk on ‘Metamorphism under extreme pressure-temperature conditions’ by Prof. Somnath Dasgupta, Visiting Professor, Indian Institute of Science Education & Research, Kolkata. Dept. of Geography hosted second invited lecture on ‘Frontier Research in Geo-informatics’ by Prof. Partha Sarathi Roy, Senior Fellow, World Resources Institute, India,
These programmes commenced with the Welcome Address by Prof. Vinod K. Garg, CUPB Senior Professor and Dean Student Welfare. While highlighting the achievements of Prof. Somnath Dasgupta & Prof. Partha Sarathi Roy, he mentioned that both the invited speakers are acclaimed scientists and by listening to them, our students will get benefited with better conceptual understanding and with enhanced knowledge on the latest research trends in their respective disciplines.
In his inaugural address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Tiwari emphasized on the importance of studying core subjects in Geology and mentioned although the recent research in Geology is more towards the applied aspect but the core subject needs to be taught & understood.
In his expert lecture, Prof. Somnath Dasgupta discussed the Ultra-High Pressure (UHP) and Ultra-High Temperature (UHT) metamorphism. Prof. Partha Sarathi Roy in his talk mainly focused on research development and priorities in the field of Geo-informatics. Post lecture, students interacted with expert speakers and got satisfactory answers to their queries. Both these lectures were attended by students, faculty and researchers from the university as well as from other institute other institutes/science organisation of India.
Dr. Sunil Mittal, Associate Dean, expressed his gratitude towards the guest speakers for enlightening the participants with scholarly lectures. He appreciated Dr. J.K.
