Aligarh: The 72nd Republic Day was celebrated at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) with the unfurling of the tricolour at various faculties, departments, colleges, schools, residential halls and offices.
At the J N Medical College, Prof Shahid Ali Siddiqui (Principal) hoisted the National Flag and in a speech urged students, teachers and non-teaching staff to continuously contribute to the growth of the Nation, making India strong and dynamic.
After unfurling the National Flag at the Dr Z A Dental College, Prof R K Tiwari (Principal) motivated the gathering to give their heart and soul in the Nation building process.
Prof Saud Ali Khan, Principal, AJK Tibbiya College delivered a speech to pay homage to the founding fathers of the Nation.
Republic Day was observed at the Faculty of Life Sciences with the flag hoisting ceremony led by Prof Wasim Ahmad (Dean).
Prof Naima Khatoon Gulrez, Principal, Women’s College hoisted the tricolour in a function filled with gaiety and enthusiasm at the College. She said that this special day marks the transition of our Country into an independent republic after the constitution came into effect.
“Republic Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at the University Polytechnic in the presence of Prof Parvez Mustajab (Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology),” said Prof Arshad Umar (Principal).
Zeba Ali (Class X, AMU Girls School) won the first prize in the patriotic poetry competition held at the Indira Gandhi Hall to mark the occasion. Hafiz Mohammad Hamid Khan (Class XII, Sayyid Hamid Senior Secondary School) stood second and Asma Khatoon (Class VIII, AMU Girls School) received the third prize.
Winners were awarded with E-Certificates, said Prof Sheeba Hamid (Provost).
After the flag hoisting ceremony at the Begum Sultan Jahan Hall, Prof Saira Mehnaz (Provost) spoke on the values enshrined in the Constitution and the importance of nation-wide Covid vaccine drive.
Similarly, AMU Girls School observed the Republic Day with speeches and flag hoisting by Amna Malik (Principal) and Arshi Zafar Khan (Vice Principal). School students also participated in cultural activities.
“At the AMU City Girls’ High School, the day was observed with the flag hoisting by the Chief Guest, Prof Abid Ali Khan,” said Dr M Alamgir (Principal). The Chief Guest administered the Integrity Pledge and urged the youth to take the Nation further on the path of progress and development.
The Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged organised cultural programs to mark the occasion. Adil Jaleel (Acting Principal) read the preamble of the constitution to the students and staff members.
At the S N Hall, Prof Shaheen (Provost), the Republic Day was observed with patriotism and fervour. Prof Shaheen (Provost) unfurled the National Flag and addressed the resident students, wardens and Hall staff on the importance of the occasion.
After the flag hoisting at the Aftab Hall, Salman Khalil (Provost) with faculty members, students and non-teaching staff pledged to work for national unity.
Similarly at the Mohsin ul Mulk Hall, flag hoisting was followed by the National Anthem and a speech by Prof M Ali Jauhar (Provost).
At the Abdullah Hall, Dr Ghazala Naheed (Provost) delivered the Republic Day speech and distributed prizes to the winners of sports events conducted to mark the occasion.
Flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Sir Shah Sulaiman Hall, in which all residents, wardens and the other staff participated, said Prof Salman Hameed (Provost).
At the Abdullah School Republic Day celebrations, Mrs Umra Zaheer (Superintendent) spoke on India’s social and economic progress and unity and cultural diversity. Students participated in various online competitions and cultural programmes in line with the social distancing measures.
