Ramban chosen as pilot district for commissioning of Decision Support System for disaster response
Ramban: District Ramban has been chosen as the pilot district for commissioning of Decision Support System for Disaster management and response in time-critical situations.
The Consultants engaged for the purpose would develop two modules comprising Hazard Monitoring and Emergency Response and Damage Assessment including mobile-based applications to successfully operate the systems to tackle disaster-like situations.
In this regard, Deputy Commissioner, Mussarat Islam, today held a detailed discussion with the experts engaged under JTFRP (Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project) here at a meeting,. He suggested various measures for developing a vibrant Decision Support System for disaster management in the district.
Dr. Murali Krishna, Lead Consultant from M/S RMSI informed that Ramban is the first district in the country where software solutions for disaster management are being developed.
The meeting discussed the role of all the departments and other stakeholders. The officers representing Police, Fire & Emergency Services and State Disaster Response Force highlighted various issues and problems which they countenance while tackling emergencies and rescue operations in the landslide and accident prone district like Ramban.
They also apprised about the nature of challenges and eventualities which may arise in future keeping in view the difficult topography of the district. The issues related to infrastructure and human resource, mechanism for how and whom to report an incident, coordination among different departments, which is required to deal with disaster-like situations were also discussed threadbare.
The meeting was also attended by Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Assistant Director, Food & Civil Supplies.
