Discussion on implementation of NWM’s campaign ‘Catch the Rain’ held at Anantnag
Anantnag: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Anshul Garg today convened a meeting of concerned departments and IWMP to discuss the implementation of National Water Mission’s (NWM’s) campaign ‘Catch the Rain’ with the tagline ‘Catch the rain, where it falls, when it falls’ to create appropriate Rain Water Harvesting Structures (RWHS) suitable to the climatic conditions and sub-soil strata of the district.
During the meeting, threadbare discussions with regard to strategy and implementation of the campaign were held in the besides, directions were issued to the concerned officers for conducting awareness programmes for its effective implementation.
The DC stressed upon the officers to go through the guidelines of the said campaign and identify the spots where check dams and water harvesting pits can be built
He also stressed for harvesting of rooftop rainwater, besides, removal of encroachments and desilting of tanks to increase their storage capacity, repairing of step wells, using defunct borewells and unused wells to put water back to aquifers, adding that all the activities must be taken up with the active participation of people.
He also directed the desiltation of water bodies under convergence with MGNREGA.
Among others the meeting was attended by ADC Anantnag (G), SE Jal Shakti Anantnag Circle, ACD, CMO, CEO, DFOs of Anantnag, Lidder & Social Forestry Divisions, concerned Executives Engineers of Jal Shakti, Executive Engineer Irrigation Division Anantnag and Project Manager IWMP Anantnag.
