World Cancer Day observations at Rural Health Training Centre
Aligarh: Experts shared insights on various cancers, symptoms and new treatments, role of diet and lifestyle, and prevention measures during the World Cancer Day observations at the Rural Health Training Centre-Jawan, Department of Community Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
“Cancer needs to be detected early. It does not cause death immediately, like heart attacks and strokes. There is adequate time for starting treatments and saving lives,” Prof Anees Ahmad, Chairman, Department of Community Medicine.
Speaking on ‘I am and I will’, the theme for 2021World Cancer Day; Dr Tabassum Nawab (Assistant Professor, Dept of Community Medicine) said that the campaign is about creating cancer awareness for everyone around us, within our neighbourhoods, communities and cities.
Delivering the health talk, Dr Tabassum emphasised the importance of good health, natural and healthy diet, exercise and staying away from risk factors such as smoking.
Dr Shaista Perveen spoke on signs and symptoms of lung cancer and encouraged the public to stop the usage of tobacco.
“Women should breastfeed their children and meet doctors if they have a family history of breast cancer,” said Dr Karthika P.
Speaking on cervical cancer; Dr Ambika Saraswat urged people to go for routine Pap tests, to get vaccinated, avoid risk of developing human papillomavirus (HPV) and to quit smoking.
