Faculty Development Programme on Waste Management began at the Department of Civil Engineering, Z H College of Engineering and Technology, AMU
Aligarh: In a bid to enhance professionalism and educational competence in the understanding of waste management for better environment, climate and human health; a five-day online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on ‘Waste Management: Challenges and Opportunities’ began today at the Department of Civil Engineering, Z H College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Organised under the aegis of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Training And Learning (ATAL) Academy, the FDP feature lectures by resource persons from the IIT Roorkee, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Jamia Millia Islamia, TERI and AMU.
At the inaugural function, Prof Pervez Mustajab (Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology) spoke on the efficient waste management systems for development of smart cities.
“The proper development of smart cities address waste management in holistic ways as the collection of waste is fundamental in improving the living conditions and the environment. There is a need for effective policies for waste prevention and management options, and moving towards a more circular economy,” he pointed out.
Prof M M Sufyan Beg (Principal, Z H College of Engineering and Technology) praised the efforts of the faculty members for bringing the ATAL FDP to the Department of Civil Engineering.
He further spoke on important developments in Z H College of Engineering and Technology.
In the welcome address, Prof Abdul Baqi (Chairman, Department of Civil Engineering) said that that in order to seek sustainable solutions there is necessary to generate successful strategic plans that coordinate the workings of waste management.
He thanked the Vice Chancellor for introducing new M.Tech courses.
Prof Sohail Ayub (Programme Coordinator) highlighted the need of the FDP in the background of sustainable environment development.
Prof I H Farooqi (FDP Convener) extended the vote of thanks.
M Moinul Haq conducted the programme.
Over 200 participants from different organizations and universities are attending the FDP.
