‘World Hearing Day’ Health Camp organised at JNMC, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)
Aligarh: To raise awareness on the prevention of deafness and hearing loss and to promote public health actions for ear and hearing care, a ‘Hearing Health Camp’ on the theme, ‘Hearing Care For All’ was organised to mark the ‘World Hearing Day’ at the OPD of the Department of OTO-Rhino-Laryngology (ENT), J N Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Organised by the Department of ENT, JNMC in collaboration with the Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan) Mumbai, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India; the camp also had screening and diagnosis facilities.
“Over 60 patients were screened for hearing loss and seven children who had undergone the Cochlear Implant surgery were assessed,” said Prof Kamlesh Chandra, Chairman, Department of ENT.
He discussed causes and rehabilitative measures of hearing loss and various ear diseases across the life course.
Emphasising the importance of screening, Prof S C Sharma weighted upon appropriate interventions.
He stressed on the effective implementation of proven strategies to prevent hearing loss and rehabilitation of those with irreversible impairments with the best public health measures.
Dr Aftab Ahmed drew attention on early intervention for children with hearing loss to help them in rehabilitation of hearing and development of speech and language.
Dr Mehtab Alam shed light on financial assistance extended to the economically weaker section for treatment of hearing problems.
