JDA, Social Forestry conduct Plantation Drive

Jammu: Jammu Development Authority in collaboration with Social Forestry department today conducted plantation drive here at a Park near the Election Commission of India, office.

During the drive, 100 environment friendly, medicinal, Herbal, Ornamental plants of different species viz Amla, Jamun, Arjun, Mango, Chir, Chinar, bougan wilia, Raat ki rani, China Rose etc. were planted.

The drive was kick started by Babila Rakwal, VC, JDA in the presence of Mohinder Gupta, Regional Director, who was accompanied by Hitaishi Sharma, DFO alongwith many officers of Social Forestry.

The Engineering wing, comprising Sushil Kumar, Executive Engineer, JDA; Gopal Sharma, AEE and other engineers also participated in the drive.

Speaking on this occasion, Rakwal said that such drives will be in routine now for proper implementation of Green law in and around JDA parks for which the Department has set a target of planting appropriately 1 Lakh trees during the current year. She also said that every citizen shall plant a tree on the occasion of his birthday or his family members or in the memory of his nears and dears.

Instructions were issued to JDA officers and officials to identify the vacant spaces where plantation can be done to make Jammu clean and green.

Mohinder Gupta, Regional Director disclosed that Social Forestry has decided to plant many more trees than previous year. He said Social Forestry is in the process of taking requirement of plants from various departments so that requisite plants were grown in the nurseries.

Prominent among others who were also present on this occasion were Puneet Sharma, Director Land Management, JDA; Dinesh Joshi, Range officer; Er.Ajay Kumar Wazir, Dy. General Manager IOC; Rajeev Yadav IOC; Junior Engineers Jatinder Singh, Nikhil Bakshi and Vinod Kumar & M.P Singh, General Manager SAIL and many other officers besides citizens and morning walkers from all walks of life.

All the participants also took pledge to save the trees.
