Virtual meeting of youth from sister cities
The third meeting of students of the Institute of Foreign Languages of Petrozavodsk State University with young people (students and schoolchildren) from the sister city of Tubingen took place.
The meeting was held in the videoconference mode on the ZOOM platform and was a continuation of the Tubingen-Petrozavodsk online youth exchange project.
The third of four planned meetings within the framework of the virtual bilingual round table “Tourist Karelia”, organized annually under the guidance of Associate Professor of the Department of German and French Languages E.N. Vorotilina and senior lecturer of the Department of Foreign Languages of Humanities O.O. Nikolaeva, was devoted to the demonstration and discussion of a photo of the sights of the twin city of Tubingen, as well as a video filmed by the students of the Institute of Foreign Languages. One of the initiators of the meeting was the Karelian Foundation for the Development of People’s Diplomacy, headed by N.V. Lavrushina. The meeting was moderated by Stephan Klingebiel, an expert from the International Relations Department of the Tübingen City Hall. Mr. Klingebil provided photos,
Traditionally, great interest was aroused by questions about Petrozavodsk, such as, for example, how many sculptures from Germany can be seen on the embankment of Lake Onega in Petrozavodsk? what constellations are depicted on one of the monuments from Germany? What is the origin of the stone that was taken as the basis for the “Wallet of Happiness”? and many others. At the same time, the questions for the German and Russian part of the audience were different, since, according to the organizers’ idea, the participants of the meeting during the discussion in the session halls could mutually enrich each other with new information about the twin cities.
At the end of the meeting, a plan for further actions was outlined: in the next three weeks, before the next meeting on 05/20/2021, both sides will continue to work on creating videos about the sights of the sister cities. You will also have to watch all the prepared videos, since the jury will be made by both the project participants and everyone who wants to, students from the twin cities of Tubingen and Petrozavodsk
We invite everyone to cooperate and look forward to the next meeting, noted the organizers of the meeting.
