Aligarh Muslim University VC appeals all to take the vaccine
Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor has urged all the members of AMU fraternity, including faculty, employees, students, their families, and other concerned people to get vaccinated against COVID-19 on a priority basis to save themselves from the scourge of the pandemic.
In an appeal released today, the Vice-Chancellor said that vaccine hesitancy has played a significant role in the incidence of a large number of cases of COVID-19 among university employees and their families, and consequent morbidity and mortality. It is the responsibility of all of us, especially the Deans, Principals, Chairpersons, Provosts, Heads of Departments/Sections and responsible persons among teaching, non-teaching and alumni community to motivate and make efforts that all employees, their family members and students get vaccinated against COVID-19 as per the Government of India and Medical Guidelines.
“All studies indicate that vaccines provide protection against serious disease, hospitalizations and deaths. Vaccination is also required to control the present situation as well as to prevent a potential third wave in the future”, said the Vice-Chancellor in his appeal.
The appeal further stated that vaccination can be taken at any approved vaccination centre for persons in the age groups of 45 years and above, and 18-44 years. Two vaccination centres are also operating in the JN Medical College (Examination Centre and Auditorium).
Professor Mansoor further urged all AMU employees to provide the vaccination status of themselves and their dependent family members to the office of Medical Attendance Scheme, AMU in the format circulated by it. “This information will provide us with the information for future health planning and streamlining the vaccination drive”, he said.
“At personal and community levels, COVID appropriate behaviour – wearing of masks, physical distancing, ventilation, etc., is critical for our safety and to ease pressure on healthcare system during the second wave”, the appeal stated.
The Vice-Chancellor has requested help and cooperation of all, especially AMU staff, their families and students in this matter.
Professor Mansoor also visited the two vaccination centres at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and oversaw the arrangements. He also checked the vaccination progress and interacted with the staff, volunteers and common people, who had come to take the vaccine.
