University of Auckland welcomes new Chancellor and Pro-Chancellor
The University of Auckland has a new Chancellor in Cecilia Tarrant and Cathy Quinn has become Pro-Chancellor.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dawn Freshwater has welcomed Cecilia Tarrant and Cathy Quinn into the roles of Chancellor and Pro-Chancellor at the University of Auckland.
“I am pleased to inform you that, at the recent meeting of Council, Cecilia Tarrant was elected as Chancellor of the University and Cathy Quinn as Pro-Chancellor,” said Professor Freshwater. “They began their roles earlier this week.”
Cecilia Tarrant has been Pro-Chancellor since the start of 2019 and a member of the University of Auckland Council since 2017. She is a highly respected and experienced company director and is Chair of New Zealand Green Investment Finance Limited (NZGIF) and angel investment group ArcAngels, as well as Director of Seeka and Payments NZ. She has been an Executive in Residence at the University of Auckland Business School since 2010. Before her career in governance, Cecilia worked in international banking and finance, including as Managing Director of Morgan Stanley in New York and London.
Cathy Quinn is a former senior corporate lawyer and now serves as a non-executive director of Fletcher Building, Fonterra, Tourism Holdings and Rangatira, and as Chair of Fertility Associates. She was an inaugural member of the Commercial Advisory Board to the New Zealand Treasury and has served on the Advisory Board of the New Zealand Treasury since 2016. Cathy was a founding member of the New Zealand China Council and served on the Council for seven years.
“I want to acknowledge and thank the outgoing Chancellor, Scott St John, for his outstanding service and contribution, both in his role as Chancellor, since 2017, and for his many years of generous service on Council and to the University more broadly,” said Professor Freshwater. “He has been, and will continue to be, a great friend and supporter of our University.”
