Robo journalism is a reality of today’s media: Shashi Shekhar
IIMC has done new experiments in the field of media education: Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi Foundation Day lecture organized at Indian Institute of Mass Communication
New Delhi : “Technology has now completely changed the Media. Robots and Artificial Intelligence are the reality of today’s Media. Technical competence is an important aspect of a journalist’s caliber today.” These views were expressed by Shri Shashi Shekhar, Editor-in-Chief, Hindustan Newspaper in a special lecture organized on the occasion of 57th Foundation Day of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, (IIMC), New Delhi on Tuesday. Special guests present on the occasion included Director General of the Institute, Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi, Vice Chancellor of Nehru Gram Bharati University, Prayagraj Prof. Rammohan Pathak, Vice Chancellor of Kushabhau Thackeray University of Journalism and Mass Communication, Raipur, Prof. Baldev Bhai Sharma and IIMC Dean (Academics) Prof. Govind Singh.
Expressing his views on the topic ‘Media Education: The Road Ahead’, Shri Shashi Shekhar said, increasing use of technology in the Media is a big challenge for journalists, but there is need to strike up a friendship with technology as people who keep pace with new technology make history.
Shri Shekhar said that there are advantages and disadvantages of change, but it is essential that we adapt what is good with a positive attitude. He went on to say that in the digital age journalists are becoming global resources and they need expertise. Therefore, its is imperative that media education institutions prepare students accordingly. This calls for a need to effect relevant changes in the curriculum of media education.
On the occasion, the Director General of IIMC, Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi said that today IIMC has a completed 57 glorious years of its existence. It is a proud moment for the entire family of Indian Institute of Mass Communication. IIMC alumni today hold leadership roles in media organizations across the world. He said that the innovations made by IIMC in the field of media education and research in the last year are an example for other media education institutions in the country. The program was moderated by the Dean (Student Welfare) of IIMC, Prof. Pramod Kumar.
