Poshan Mah, Matru Vandana Saptah start with verve in Rajouri
RAJOURI : The month long National Nutrition Month also called Poshan Mah and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Saptah (Week) began with verve here in Rajouri district
In order to educate the general public about the benefits of PMMVY and key aspects of the Poshan Abhiyan, special awareness rallies were flagged off at different ICDS projects.
At District Headquarter, a grand programme was organised by the ICDS Department here in the Conference Hall of the PWD Dak Bunglow.
Among the others, District Programme Officer, Kartar Singh; CDPO Rajouri, Naseer Ahmed; PRIs, Supervisors; Anganwadi workers and helpers attended the programme.
During the programme, the participants were sensitised by Resource Persons about effective implementation of Maternity Benefit Programme ‘Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana’.
They were also educated about various components of the scheme including cash incentives for Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers (PW&LM).
They were told that the Matru Vandana Saptah is celebrated every year with the objective to cover maximum eligible beneficiaries of the under the scheme. The saptah is celebrated for a week and this year the week starts from 01st of September.
A detailed light was also thrown on key aspects of Poshan Mah and on the role and responsibilities of the field functionaries and PRIs.
In his address, the District Programme Officer, Kartar Singh said that POSHAN Mah is one of the many important components of the National Nutrition Mission aiming towards promoting positive behavioural change towards infants and young child feeding practices.
The District Programme Officer apprised that during this week-long programme, a number of activities including meetings of Gram Sabhas/ULBs, enrollment drive of beneficiaries, drive for resolution of issues, backlog clearance drive, and organization of village health sanitation day will be undertaken.
The District Programme Officer informed that an amount of Rs 07 crores has been disbursed into the accounts of fourteen thousand beneficiaries of the district since the launch of the scheme.
The District Programme Officer urged upon the field functionaries and PRIs to ensure that all the eligible beneficiaries are registered under the schemes during this week-long programme so that they can be provided necessary benefits under the scheme.
The District Programme Officer said that the welfare of children forms the base for many schemes and policies and stressed on convergent efforts by all stakeholders to achieve the challenging task of eradicating malnutrition
The District Programme Officer also sought the cooperation of PRIs in effective implementation of the scheme on the ground level.
