A systematic approach to the preservation of wooden architecture monuments

On September 2-4, 2021 at the Institute of Forestry, Mining and Construction Sciences, PetrSU, the III International Scientific and Practical Forum “Systematic Approach to the Preservation of Wooden Architecture Monuments” was held.
The event was held with the assistance of the Department of YHECKO “Study and Preservation of Wooden Architecture” and the Research Institute of Historical and Theoretical Problems of Folk Architecture of PetrSU.

The forum was attended by 78 Russian and foreign participants, among whom were employees of the largest museums in Russia, leading restorers and architects, specialists from the protection bodies of monuments, representatives of the public, researchers and teachers.

The forum program included 3 blocks: restoration of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord on Fr. Kizhi, scientific restoration of monuments of wooden architecture and the experience of restoration of monuments of wooden architecture. The participants also visited the objects that have undergone restoration – the building of the children’s clinic (the former building of the People’s Commissariat for Foreign Affairs of the Karelo-Finnish SSR) and the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord on the island. Kizhi.

The forum discussed the most important issues of preserving monuments. A special place was taken by the reports devoted to the completion of the comprehensive restoration of the Transfiguration Church of the Kizhi Pogost. The issues of inspection, conservation, engineering measures for the preservation of wooden architecture monuments, training and education of specialists were discussed. There were reports on the preservation and revival of historical rural and urban wooden buildings.

An important feature of the forum was its accessibility and attractiveness for young professionals. Holding such an event contributes to the dissemination of knowledge and competencies in the field of preserving wooden architecture, ensuring interaction between specialists from different regions and countries and is an important milestone in the development of the YHECCO department,
