J&K PCC celebrates ‘World Ozone Day’
SRINAGAR : As part of the celebrations of World Ozone Day, a meeting was convened in the conference hall of J&K Pollution Control Committee (JKPCC), Sheikh-ul-Aalam Campus Rajbagh, here.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Rafi Ahmad Bhat, Regional Director JKPCC, Kashmir Division.
The Regional Director in his address threw light on the background and importance of the day. He said that the need of the day was to spread awareness regarding the depletion of the Ozone layer and possible solutions to preserve it.
The meeting started with the welcome address by Fayaz Ahmad, Scientist, who welcomed the chairperson and discussed some technical points regarding the subject.
Gazala Hassan, Scientist, also spoke on the importance of this day. She shared some guidelines and measures to protect the Ozone layer.
The meeting ended with the vote of thanks by Sabia Mahajan.
Meanwhile, September 16 is celebrated as World Ozone Day. It commemorates the Montreal Protocol that was signed on this date in 1987. The day is mainly intended to spread awareness on the depletion of the Ozone layer and search for solutions to preserve it. The theme for this year’s World Ozone Day is “Montreal Protocol, keeping us, our food and vaccines cool.”
The meeting among others was attended by all the employees of JKPCC including scientists, engineers, several district officers and field officers etc.
