Why you should appear for both sessions of JEE Mains 2019?
JEE Main is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and is considered to be the most popular exam for students of the nation. From next year, JEE Main 2019 exam will be conducted twice a year. JEE Main 2019 will be conducted from January 9 to 12 and April 6 to 20. The exam will be in computer-based mode. In a press conference with Prakash Javadekar, all the changes made in JEE Main 2019 were made clear. Those are as follows:
Candidates now can appear twice for the exam in January and April every year.
There will be no changes in the syllabus, exam pattern, exam fees and, languages.
The application form for January session will be released from September 1 to 30, 2018.
The application form for April session will be available from February 8 to March 7, 2019.
It will be the candidate’s wish to appear either in one of the exams or both the exam. If the candidates will appear in both the exams held in a year, then their best out of two scores will be used for admission/counseling. A standardized method will be used after extracting the best scores and then the rank list will be prepared after the exams. This clarifies that if a candidate wishes to appear in both the exams then it will be counted as his/her single attempt and will not be counted as two. One rank list will be prepared after both the exams.
The motive behind the two exam facility is to provide the candidates one more opportunity to perform better. If the candidate is not satisfied by the exam, they may re-appear for the April session. In JEE Main, only three consecutive attempts are allowed. Thus, logically it is clear that if a student has appeared once in 2018, then they have 2 chances to appear in JEE Main exam in 2019 and 2020 respectively. The website for NTA has been launched on July 7, 2018 (nta.ac.in). Candidates can check this website for examination dates and other related information. From January 2019, the exam will be conducted in online mode i.e students have to write all the answer on a computer. Earlier the candidates were provided the option to choose among computer-based mode or pen-paper mode. Paper 1 for B.Tech/B.E will be completely computer-based. Paper 2 for B.Arch./B.Planning will be conducted in both computer-based mode for Mathematics and Aptitude Test and Drawing test will be conducted in pen and paper mode.
The computer-based mode exam is a plus point for the candidates who are comfortable with the computer and feel that the pen and paper mode is tiring. Such students can efficiently do their exam well. But this might be a problem for rural students as they are not very comfortable with computers. Earlier they were provided the option of pen and paper but now they are left with no option other than learning computers. To help such students, NTA has provided some practice centers where students can practice for free of cost on computers.
Thus a candidate should appear for the sessions of exam held in January and April as it has a number of benefits. The main advantage is that even if a student appears twice, the attempt is counted as one. The best out of two scores will be considered for ranking, so it is a plus point that if a candidate is dissatisfied with the January attempt, they may re-appear in April. If the April attempt seems unfortunately tough and the exam doesn’t go well then also there is no problem as the January’s attempt marks will be counted. This opportunity is great for all the candidates as it has a number of advantages that are in student’s favor. In my opinion, a candidate should certainly appear in both the exams.
