Top French design school sets up base in Delhi to offer education in digital product design, gaming, and visual arts
Delhi : École Intuit Lab, a top French design institution, is partnering with Delhi-based JS Institute of Design to set up its third school in India. The new school will offer four undergraduate level programs (Visual Communication & Design, Game Art & Design, Fine Arts, and Digital Product Design), and one postgraduate program (Advertising, Design & Digital Communication).
A report by the India Design Council (“The Future of Design Education in India”) estimates that the market potential for the graphic, communication and packaging design industry exceeds Rs 5,500 crore—and only a fraction is currently being tapped. This indicates that there is great scope for design professionals in areas like visual communication and packaging design.
Given the growing interest in gaming amongst youth, the number of job openings in game art, design and development are also predicted to increase rapidly. Currently, there are a little over 15,000 people employed in the Indian game development industry, but thousands of jobs are going unfilled for lack of suitably qualified employees. There is a need for education programs to train game designers who can design and develop innovative new games.
Digital product design is also another area where the need for designers is increasing rapidly, thanks to the explosion in web and mobile applications. Jobs for user interface (UI), user experience (UX) and customer experience (CX) designers are anticipated to increase significantly in the coming years, as new technologies and services enter the market.
Dr Pramath Raj Sinha, Founder, Ashoka University, ISB, and JS Institute of Design, said, ”We need to ensure that design students are equipped with the knowledge and skills that are needed in a rapidly globalizing economy. Many new career opportunities are being created, and students need to be armed with not just professional education but also industry experience gained through internships and mentoring.”
Commenting on the move to strengthen its presence in India, Clément Derock, Founder, École Intuit Lab said, “École Intuit Lab is one of the top 5 French design schools. Our programs, curriculum and pedagogy are contemporary—and highly aligned to the changing needs of the design industry. We also ensure that our students in India are exposed to the latest global trends and techniques through semester abroad opportunities in France and regular international faculty visits. We see JS Institute of Design as an ideal partner, as they share a similar vision about design education.”
The qualifications granted by École Intuit Lab are recognized and accepted for higher studies by overseas universities in USA, Canada and UK. Additionally, students undertake internships and industry projects that give them an adequate exposure to the professional world. With this new association between JS Institute of Design and École Intuit Lab, Indian parents and guardians can now encourage their children to pursue these new-age design careers in India, instead of looking at more expensive alternatives overseas.
Apart from Delhi, École Intuit Lab has presence in Mumbai, Kolkata and has been successfully operating in India for 10 years now, with former students placed in reputed Indian and international organizations.
