New Delhi: BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL)—with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) as its knowledge and implementing partner—concluded the first phase of its flagship CSR programme ‘Energy Wise, Energy Rise’ (EWER), 2018–19. EWER is an environmental campaign dedicated to promoting energy efficiency and sustainable living in the government schools of the national capital. In its first phase, EWER covered 100 schools and reached out to as many as 30,000 students with a project book and comprehensive energy-awareness workshops.
The concluding event, held at the India Habitat Centre, was attended by Abhishek Ranjan, Head–Renewables, BRPL; Ajay Mathur, Director-General, TERI; Dr Usha Chakravarti, Ms. Usha Chaturvedi Deputy Director, Directorate of Education Science & TV Branch; and Dr Annapurna Vancheswaran, Senior Director, TERI. Twelve ‘Energy Champions’ were acknowledged at the event and more than 5,000 students were given certificates for their contribution to the success of the campaign. The best nodal teachers were also felicitated, while students gave crackling performances on environmental themes.
Emphasizing the significance of awareness campaigns like EWER, Ajay Mathur said, ‘It is an important initiative as it is reaching out to a very crucial segment of the population.’ He interacted with the attendee students and asked them about their experiences of the workshop.
Usha Chaturvedi shared that programmes like EWER are significant because they teach children the right values about saving energy and their natural resources. This will turn them into responsible citizens.
Outlining the reason why BRPL decided to take this CSR campaign to schools, Abhishek Ranjan said, ‘We want children to learn about renewables, especially solar, so that they can adapt to renewable technologies in time.’ He spoke about how new technologies are already shaping a smart sustainable future.
