Siberian Federal University: A youth laboratory of biofuel compositions starts working at Siberian Federal University
A laboratory of biofuel compositions is starting to work at Siberian Federal University within the framework of the Yenisey Siberia world-class scientific and educational centre.
The tasks of the laboratory are the development and optimization of compositions of traditional fuels based on hydrocarbons and biofuels produced as a result of processing plant raw materials. The scientists plan to choose the optimal ratio of components to ensure the operation of internal combustion engines. In addition, they are working on improving the characteristics of existing biofuel and standardizing it.
According to the head of the laboratory, Vladimir Bukhtoyarov, society is interested in biofuels due to their environmental friendliness compared to diesel obtained from mining.
“There are many crops growing in Krasnoyarsk Territory that can be used as raw materials for the production of biofuels. On the other hand, Krasnoyarsk Territory is a resource region in terms of hydrocarbons. In this regard, the task arose to integrate traditional fuels and fuels that are considered green. Achievement of this goal is consistent with the goals of the Yenisey Siberia REC to improve the environmental situation and reduce the carbon footprint,” said Vladimir Bukhtoyarov, head of the laboratory.
The laboratory of biofuel compositions is a youth laboratory, research in it will be carried out by young scientists under 39. In the autumn of 2021, the laboratory became one of the winners of the grant competition of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia; in total, three youth laboratories will be created at SibFU under this grant.
