GCW Udhampur organises symposium on Covid-Appropriate Behaviour, cultural program
UDHAMPUR : Department of Music, Government College for Women Udhampur, under the guidance of Prof Seema Sharma, today organised a series of events under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotasav’.
The events included a symposium on Covid Appropriate behaviour: Prevention and Precautions, cultural programs, a puppet show on Covid awareness and a patriotic Natak “Janh-e- Kashmir”.
College Principal, Prof. Minu Mahajan was the chief guest on the occasion, while Ritu Anand Gandotra, a renowned writer and Poetess was the guest of honour.
As many as 10 students participated in the symposium and expressed their message oriented thoughts on Covid Appropriate Behaviour. They discussed various aspects of COVID-19 including the meaning, prevention and control measures.
Dr. Sanjeet Kour, Department of Zoology, Dr. Kewal Kumar, Department of Botany and Prof. Tania Akhter, Department of English acted as judges.
Radhika Sharma of Sem-III, Miss Swati Gandotra of Sem-I and Miss Vishaka Gandotra of Sem-III were judged 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in the competition. Sonia Verma and Priya of Sem-I also begged consolation prizes.
A patriotic Natak “Jang-e- Kashmir” was presented by artists of Paltayar Nehru Youth Club Garhi, Udhampur.
The Natak, directed by Sudesh Sultanpuri, portrays the prevailing conditions of Kashmir. The crisp script, catchy phrases, songs and intelligent emphasis on speech left the audience spellbound. The performance of each artist was praiseworthy.
Students of the college also presented a colourful cultural program on the occasion. The main attraction of the cultural event was traditional folk song and dances like Bhakh, geetru, Gojari Mahiya. Prof. Yash Paul of Department of History sang a melodious dogri song that pulled the heartstrings of the audience.
Besides, a Puppet show on the theme Covid Appropriate Behaviour was also presented by Radhika Sharma, a student of Sem-V.
Principal, Prof. Minu Mahajan appreciated the efforts of the Department of Music for organizing the event and also congratulated the winners and participants.
In her address, she stated that such awareness programmes are the need of hour and will go a long way in sensitizing the masses about Covid Appropriate Behaviour. She also congratulated the artists of Paltayar Nehru Youth Club Garhi, Udhampur for presenting a wonderful Natak full of patriotism. Dr. A.K. Raina, Prof. Kewal Kumar, Prof. Ashni Devi, Prof. Sanjay Kumar and Prof Sumita Rao along with other faculty members graced the occasion with their benign presence. The entire event was coordinated by Prof Yash Kumar, Assistant Professor Department of Music.
