Extension lecture held to mark International Day of Education

ALIGARH  : The Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University organized an extension lecture to mark the International Day of Education. The online extension lecture was delivered by Professor Gregory Thomas, Department of Science Education, Faculty of Education, University of Alberta, Canada.
Prof Thomas stressed that 47% of jobs will disappear in the next 25 years, according to the findings of Oxford University. In this backdrop, educational institutions need to prepare students to adapt to the fast pace of life and teachers need to be subject matter experts who can develop dispositions and skills in their students.
He pointed out, “We need to stay connected with teaching and student communities in order to share ideas, successes, failures and concerns”.
Dr Banwarilal Natiya, Chairperson, North Regional Committee, NCTE, Jaipur, emphasized that India’s education system needs to focus on humanitarian aspects among students and the whole education system needs to be free from bias and politics.
“Education is the only tool for sustainable development of societies and we have to focus not only on knowledge creation but also on its efficient utilization,” he added.
In his presidential remarks, Prof Nisar Ahmad Khan, Dean, Faculty of Social Science said, “Stock of knowledge is vital and teachers need to pass it to their students efficiently, while at the same time students’ capacity needs to be identified and nourished in a productive way,” he said.
Prof Mujibul Hasan Siddiqui (Programme Director and Chairperson, Department of Education) welcomed the guest speakers while Prof Nasrin (Convenor, Extension Lecture) proposed vote of thanks. Dr Mohammad Shaheer Siddiqui moderated the programme.
