Webinars held in CDE programme
Aligarh : Faculty members of the Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) expanded their knowledge on the best dental practices and current technologies to increase their service offerings for providing the best dental care in a Continuing Dental Education (CDE) programme, comprising National webinars on topics such as ‘Painless to Pain-free Dentistry’, ‘Bad Breath Management- Fresh Breath Clinic’ and ‘Dental Trauma in Children- A Quick Overview on Management’.
Speaking on ‘Painless to Pain-free Dentistry’ and ‘Bad Breath Management- Fresh Breath Clinic’, Prof Yusuf Chunawala (Head, Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, M. A. Rangoonwala College of Dental Sciences and Research Centre, Pune) said that the Dental pain, with needle injections as the primary culprit, is a very real phobia for many people. That is why dentists have developed a method of giving injections that allows for pain-free dentistry.
He discussed blade free surgeries, quick and easy root canals and relaxing medication.
Prof Yusuf delineated techniques to reduce halitosis and to maintain a fresh breath and spoke on the importance of brushing the teeth and the tongue, use of floss and maintaining clean dentures.
Prof Vijay Prakash Mathur, (Head, Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, CDER, AIIMS, New Delhi) elucidated latest guidelines and advancements in the management of dental trauma among children.
He was speaking on ‘Dental Trauma in Children- A Quick Overview on Management’.
“Understanding the risk and presentations of dental trauma — and performing appropriate first aid — can lead to positive oral health outcomes”, said Prof Vijay.
He stressed: “The goal in managing dental trauma is full recovery of the dental pulp and periradicular tissues. If proper healing does not take place, complications can arise months or years after the injury”.
The Organising Chairperson of the programme Prof Divya Sanjay Sharma (Chairperson, Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry) said that CDE programmes like these allow the dentists to update themselves in the latest advancements to provide the best possible dental care while having access to the new preventative, diagnostic and treatment methods.
Prof Rakesh Bhargava (Dean, Faculty of Medicine) and Prof Rajendra Kumar Tewari (Principal, ZADC) remarked: “The world of dentistry is growing extremely fast and will continue to grow over time, making it clear why it is important for practicing dentists to continue their dental education”.
Programme coordinators, Prof Mahendra Kumar Jindal, Dr Sadaf Ghani and Dr Imam Azam spoke about why as a dental professional one should keep up with the major changes.
