COMEDK Launches COMEDKARES, to help Engineering Students stay up to date on New and Emerging Technologies

The jobs and workspaces of today are getting increasingly technology-intensive. Data Sciences, Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, and Meta are buzzwords today. But majority of our engineering students appear to be not equipped with adequate knowledge of the changing times. Given the rapid pace at which technology and skills are evolving, a student needs to have suitable employable soft skills along with updated technological knowledge.

In this regard, COMEDK (Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka) has announced the launch of COMEDKARES, a one-of-the-kind initiative to create for member institutions, an opportunity to establish a learning environment with a focus on skills and exposure to advanced technology. They plan to establish 8 advanced skill centres and each skill centre plans to support 10 to 12 member institutions.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. S Kumar, Executive Secretary, COMEDK , said “Today, we have a large number of students graduating out of college but fail to land a job equivalent to their degree due to lack of skill training. With COMEDKARES, we are looking to bridge that skill gap and increase the employability of these students.”

These skills centers will be established for various COMEDK member institutions across Karnataka. The centres are going to be launched in Kalaburgi, Belagavi, Hassan, Bengaluru, Dharwad, Shivamogga, Mysore and Dakshina Kannada.

“India today boasts of a rich demographic dividend, to reap the real benefits of that, we need to make our youth more industrious and employable. In the past decade, state governments and the central government have launched several incentive programmes to help the youth of India reach their full potential. COMEDKARES is also a step in this direction, which is aligning college education and skills development for the youth of today”, said Mr P. Muralidhar, CEO, ERA Foundation

This effort in establishing skill centres is in line with NEP 2020 (National Education Policy) which has emphasized skill and interdisciplinary education.
