PSPS Government P.G College for Women Kick starts series of activities

JAMMU: The Ecoclub of Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government P.G. College for Women Gandhinagar, in collaboration with Department of environmental sciences and School of Sciences, Cluster University of Jammu, under the aegis of World Environment Day, launched a series of activities to promote the value of environment among the students here under the patronage of Prof. Minu Mahajan, Principal of the College.

Dr. Nazia Rasool Latifi, a well known environmentalist and educationist was invited to demonstrate the development of vertical gardens in the college. Dr. Rasool delivered a talk on vertical gardens, their role in beautification and their aesthetic value. The students were also imparted Hands-on-training to develop a full wall vertical garden in the college.

Dr. Minu Mahajan added that vertical gardens are an answer to reuse and recycle the single use plastic for beautification purposes. With the advent of the era of concrete jungles the greenery is on a decline and vertical gardens can solve the issue of plantation drives in building. Apart from having aesthetic values the development of vertical gardens like any other gardening technique boosts the mood of the gardener, provides an opportunity for physical activities and socialization.

Prof. Minu Mahajan expressed her gratitude to the Ecoclub Team and encouraged the team to organize more such programmes which ignite the sense of care for the environment among the students.

Formal welcome address was delivered by Prof. Nisha Bhagat and Prof. Eisha Gohil presented vote of thanks to the participants and dignitaries present in the activity. Dr. Rahul Sharma, Dr. Suraj Mohani, Prof. Swarn Singh and Prof. Shivani Sawhney organized the whole event.
