Students, colleagues grieve Prof Syed Mobashir Yunus’s demise
Aligarh : The Students and grieving colleagues bid a tearful adieu to Prof Syed Mobashir Yunus, senior faculty member, Department of Anatomy, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and Provost, Hadi Hasan Hall, who passed away after a brief illness in early hours of Saturday morning. He was 59-years-old.
Glowing tributes were paid in a condolence meeting held at the Administrative Block, which was attended by university functionaries and presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor.
In a two-minute silence during the meeting, faculty members and university functionaries paused as a sign of respect to the deceased.
“I am deeply saddened by the demise of Prof Mobashir. I extend sincere condolences to his family, and wish peace for the departed soul. May God give strength to his family and loved ones to bear this loss”, said the Vice Chancellor, Prof Mansoor.
Prof Rakesh Bhargava (Dean, Faculty of Medicine) said, “Prof Mobashir touched many lives, helped many, and showed them the right path, the path of knowledge. He was an exemplary doctor and human being who brought so much to JNMC”.
“Prof Mobashir was a gracious, gentle and welcoming presence in the life of the Medical College. I am very sorry to hear the sad news”, said Prof Shahid A Siddiqui (Principal, JNMC).
Prof Farhan Kirmani (Chairman, Department of Anatomy) pointed out: “Prof Mobashir always made the classroom brighter with his knowledge and wisdom. That will definitely be gravely missed. AMU teachers and students will cherish all the memories of him forever”.
Prof Mobashir was keenly interested in teaching neuroanatomy and microscopic anatomy. He authored numerous papers for peer reviewed journals such Cells Tissues and Organs, Developmental Neuroscience and International Journal of Neuroscience, Nanomedicine, PLoS ONE; International Journal of Nanomedicine, Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine, International Journal of Applied Biology and Pharmaceutical Technology, Experimental and Toxicologic Pathology, Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology and Biochimie among others.
He was appointed as a senior resident at JNMC in 1995 and was subsequently promoted to the positions of lecturer, reader and professor in the years 1997, 2003 and 2009 respectively.
Prof Mobashir did MBBS from JLNMCH, Bhagalpur and MS (Anatomy) from JNMC, AMU.
He is survived by wife, Prof Farida Ahmad (Faculty member, Department of Pharmacology, JNMC), daughter and son.
